Dieter is an expert at creating nooks and crannies for our kitties to explore. Last week, while he was passing through the living room, he deliberately folded over the edge of the big blue fleece on the couch to make a tent of sorts. Needless to say, Missy found it irresistible. Now she seeks it out every day for her afternoon nap.

Nice!! You know what, I totally understand the nook and cranny making impulse, because every morning after I get up, I either arrange some blankets on my bed to make a similar tent (with the help of a reading-in-bed pillow) or I just make a nice cozy burrowing spot out of throws. Nine morning out of ten, after my sweet little senior cat has had breakfast and made her morning patrolling rounds, she heads right for the bed and settles in... it makes me so happy!! :)
It's a nice feeling to have made something a kitty is comforted by or takes pleasure in. At least, that's where my impulses come from. I think Dieter's may also be driven by entertainment value :). I think he's amused by how cats' curiosity drives what they'll do.
That is adorable. I love it when kitties find nooks and crannies to get into and then peer out of them at their humans.
Well I can't deny the entertainment value, although I'm with you, Leslie, my main motivation is just to make a nice spot :) I'll even relinquesh spots that might be useful to me if "necessary". Years ago I had a lovely cat that, for reasons unknown, liked to park himself in a plastic dish rack I had on the counter. I'm such a softy that I literally put a towel in there to make it more comfortable for him, and then I got a different style of dish rack (not sit-on-able!) to put elsewhere on the counter to use for actual dishes. And yes, I do realize how totally ridiculous that is, ha! :)
Go Dieter! I will have to remember that (not being nearly as naturally thoughtful, myself, I take all the help I can get *shame flushes her cheeks*).
No need for shame, Lisa! You have an amazing dad who built a cat stairway for your kitties! We make ad hoc nooks and crannies out of some necessity because we don't have anything so luxurious for ours :)
